THE COILS

With modelling, coiling is the more ancient technic to make ceramics (for example : precolombian ceramics), always used in the whole world (in Africa for example) to realize big utilitary potteries and coiling permits a large flexibility in the forms construction.
 

We begin with the basis preparation, with a clay plate. We striate and put water around the plate to allow the first coil to stick well.

We "roll" the coil with the hand palm : the regularity of this clay sausage will insure the harmony of the piece shape.

We fix the coil on the bottom plate, crusthing its surface with the thumb.

Then we follow superposing one coil over other one, making a spiral.
